Bento (Lunch box) is familiar to Japanese people. We have a custom to make or buy bento and bring it to school trip, picnic with family and bullet train. We have our own unique concept for it compared with other foreign countries. We need to take care of not only the taste but also visual aspect. Today I will introduce three kinds of Bento such as Kyaraben(Character bento), Conbinibento ( bento at convenience store) and Ekiben( Bento at station).
Have you ever heard of Kyaraben ?
Kyaraben is a bento box where the food is made to look like a specific character. It is common among Japanese housewife to cook it for their kids. Especially they use the character which their kids loves such as Disney character and Ghibli character and so on. She wakes up early in the morning and start cooking it. Kids loves to open it during lunch time and enjoy tasting and its appearance.
Conbini bento is also popular among office workers.
It is the meaning of the bento which is selling at convenience store. It has many kinds of healthy bento boxes there. So that it is easy for office workers to choose the bento for their lunch. Especially woman likes to choose the one which is good looking and good for health.
We can also eat bento box in the bullet train.
We call it Ekiben. Each stations who stop bullet train sells original bento box. The ingredients in the bento is made from their own city close to the station. To eat bento in the bullet train is one of the good experience for you staying in Japan. It looks colorful and delicious.
